Star-Links College Mentorship Program
Mentee:
A person who has the willingness to learn and the desire to belong in a supportive environment while being mentored by an upper-level student. The basis of a mentoring relationship is imparting information from one person to another. Left to chance, a mentee will get the information, advice, and guidance that the mentor wants to give or thinks is helpful. Since the relationship is primarily for the mentee’s benefit, you should be able to ask what you want, need, and are curious about. Asking questions of mentors is an important skill for the mentee. High quality questions can help you to get what you want from your mentor and makes the best use of the time you spend with her.
The Houston Starlings College Connect mentorship program is a two-fold program of sharing experiences and knowledge. We trust that this program will enrich your life as you are inspired by the life of a college athlete.
The Starlings Club director will arrange informal meetings for you to spend time with your mentor so that you can learn, listen, ask questions of and open up to your mentor in a casual environment. The goal is to obtain a planned partnership between the mentor and mentee and to provide an enriching experience for both.
A time commitment of at least two hours per month is expected of mentees.
Mentor:
A trusted advisor whose experience and wisdom help guide the personal development of another individual. As a mentor, you will develop a relationship with your student athlete based on open and honest communication. You will establish a trusting partnership and share your experiences with them. You want to be a motivator and build your student's confidence. This is your chance to inspire, guide and build a lasting relationship for a future college volleyball player and have an opportunity to share new ideas and information.
